Decent Drum Heads

When you buy a new set of drums it will come with a set of drum heads.  Typically, if you buy a cheap drum set, it will come with low end drum heads, and if you buy an expensive drum set, it will come with some decent drum heads.  Unfortunately, all drum heads eventually wear out and need to be replaced.  You would be amazed how quickly the cheaper drum heads wear out.

The two best known companies for making drum heads are Remo Drum Heads and Evans Drum Heads.  Both companies have been around for a very long time and they make heads for all kinds of drums and playing styles.

If you are looking for some  good all around heads for your drum set Remo makes the "Ambassador" drum head for your snare drum, and "Pin Stripe" drum heads for your toms.  Remo does make the Pin Stripe head for the bass drum too, but I like the "Black Dot" heads for the bass because I think they last longer than the pin stripe heads.

If you are looking for a quieter and tighter sound for your drums Evans makes the "Hydraulic" drum heads.  Hydraulics are great if you plan to do recording or mic all of your drums.  For all around playing I like the Evans G2 series drum heads.  They are comparible to the Remo pin stripe heads but the have a slightly brighter sound to them.

The bottom line is that a worn out drum head will make a drum sound really bad, and out of tune.  When it's time to replace your heads go with something decent, they will last longer.  You cannot go wrong with Remo or Evans drum heads.
